Spy Birthday Party - Part II

All the decorations were black and white: question marks, foot prints on the floor, lots of homemade signs by E & C with warnings and cautions and "Spy Training Here", etc.  The floor was scattered with black balloon "bombs" tied with red string. Upon arrival all special agents were seated at Spy Headquarters, decorated with maps and more question marks.  At each place setting was an envelop marked "TOP SECRET" addressed to "Special Agent ______" (This allowed me to have a seating arrangement that worked well, with no arguing) Inside each envelop was - Sunglasses, a writing pad and pen and a "Spy Training Checklist".

The first item on the list was "Fuel" every spy needs energy to accomplish their mission so we started with cake first (plus the 2pm time is a good time for cake).
The other items on the checklist involved the games and activities.

SPECIAL AGENT TRAINING CHECKLIST
  • Balance - walked across a balance board that had "fire" vinyl window clings next to it on the floor
  • Memory - We played the "gossip" game, sitting in a line I whispered a secret message to the first agent, who had to whisper it to the next agent, down the line. The agent at the end said what they thought the message was and the differences brought a lot of laughter. I used silly phrases to start with like, "the red dog drives a blue truck" because spies speak a lot in code.
  • Disguise - We played a relay race and split into two teams,  Each team received a bag of disguise gear: mustaches, a hat, coat and camera/binoculars. The first person put on the clothes ran a set circle then passed off the disguise to the next person and so on.

  • Speed/Obstacles - we did an obstacle course with a tunnel and a game of follow the leader.  I masking-taped a ladder on the floor and each spy came up with a way to cross the ladder and the other spies had to mimic it.  They came up with some fun ideas and everyone got a turn.  We also had a laser beam (chunky red yarn) obstacle course on the stairs. Featured below, climbing through the lasers is my dear, amazing friend Larissa.  She and Luke saved the day after the kids burned through the planned activities in record time, they took them outside for more running around games, which she came up with in lightning speed and kept everything smooth and happy until the parents arrived for pick-up. THANK YOU!

Party favours were gathered up into their TOP SECRET envelops and included what E & C thought were important for spies - including their sunglasses and notepads there were bouncy balls, twisty straws, Jewels (a ring pop), glow sticks and a superhero colouring book.

So fear not world a new set of spies is ready to thwart evil....

TOP SECRET - Spy birthday Invitations

Someone's birthday is coming soon and a lot of preparations are underway. Here is the first clue....any guesses for the theme?

"Spy" is correct.  Inside each envelop was a postcard. One side had a satellite view of our house/ surrounding neighbourhood (thank you Google Maps), tinted green (for night vision goggles) with a circle and arrow and a red note saying "Secret Agent Rendezvous Friday 2PM."

The other side read -
TOP SECRET
Secret Agents E and C invite you on a top-secret mission
Code Name: Operation Birthday Party
Mission begins: 2PM Jan ___
Mission concludes: 4 PM Jan ___
Rendezvous Point: "Our address"
Parents are welcome to stay or drop-off.
If you choose to accept or decline this assignment, dial 206.---.---- from a secure phone line to confirm.

I had some of the cutest confirmations on the answered machine. "I'll be there." "click." was my favourite.

Spy Birthday Party - Part I, The cakes

So having twins I always have a dilemma about a shared birthday. Do they share a cake? Does everyone sing to both of them at the same time: "Happy Birthday E & C.." If yes what order? (maybe it should be "Happy Birthday C & E..") Do we sing two songs... The list of questions I ask myself and people around me are endless.

This  year they each got a cake of their very own E likes only white cake so that was easy and he wanted Footprints (He really wanted a shoe to step in the cake for a real footprint, but I talked him out of it) and "Mystery Marks" AKA question marks.
C wanted a little more excitement for his cake a BOMB!  I did my best with non-skills and cooked the chocolate cake in a glass bowl for the rounded shape, iced it in chocolate with a red-licorice fuse.

Cake was the first thing on the party agenda.  My neighbour did that at a party last week and I thought it was an awesome idea for a 2o'clock birthday party! We sang separate Happy Birthday songs and had a separate blowing out of the candles on each.

The best part about 2 cakes - lots of leftovers!
