Today we had a forest-y trail at Schafer State Park near Satsop, WA. It was cloudy and lightly raining on and off. Being in the Northwest it's rain or shine for hiking plans. Fortunately, this trail has a large canopy, often we could hear the rain but not feel it though the leaves. Unfortunately, with all the leafy trees we also got up close and personal with some biting insects (I think deer flies). Many hikers, including E had painful, bleeding bites. This is our least favourite creature encounter. C found at least 7 snails, which were not very shy and peaked out of their shells.
