a high flying flag

We have had Olympic fever at our house. Every night when Dad gets home from work, we turn on CBC and watch the Canadian version, before the American version comes on later. E has decided he swims the butterfly and always gets the gold medal - which he enacts the entire thing, from the "dive", swimming on the floor and the medals ceremony, where both America's and Canada anthems are played and he bows, "thank you, thank you very much". C meanwhile races around the room in his running events, where he is always "fastest in the whole wide world."

We made some decorations for our family room wall. I got the idea for this banner of flags here It was really fun to talk about the different countries, what a flag was and let them pick out ones we wanted to "make." I let them do all the choosing and most of the colouring in.

"You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love."
~George M. Cohan

My sister-in-law Ade made the cool gold medals for an activity we had where we did our version of some events. a basketball toss, trampoline gymnastic routines, weight lifting, a little torch run with faux fire of course. I wish I had some pics of the day, good times and gold medals had by all.
