Big O, Little o what begins with o?

Today we made octopuses for the letter O. Reinforcement stickers made the perfect suction cups on the tenacles.and they are shaped like the letter o too!

Big N, little n

N is for Nest.

I had the boys get supplies for their nests, they came in with grass, paper shreds, and dandelions. C wanted his to have a roof :)

The birds are a glitter kit by Martha Stewart. It is really awesome, the birds are sectioned stickers, you can peel off each section and glitter it separately, then the back is stick-able too!

M is for mopping up marshmellows...

Big K Little k

A kid with a kite begins with k. I cut the pieces earlier and had the boys assemble. K was a hard one for me for some reason.

Can you tell, I wish for summer? Lemons and lemonade are good anytime of year though.

Big I little i

For the letter I, we learned some science:

(Note fancy science words are bold and italicized, please ooh and ahh)

Rock salt + near boiling water

Stir to dissolve = Concentrated salt water. It goes on clear with a paint brush. Check back as water evaporates and salt crystallizes on the art work.

Perfect for all things icy and snowy, our favourites were igloos, icebergs, and a snow storm (paint splatters).

Tip - a wax crayon works great to draw the outlines as it repels the water.

The best part? the "paint" is easy to clean up and does not stain.

J is for Jewel, something in every successful pirate's treasure.

This letter of the day was inspired by this post on artprojectsforkids, not as elaborate since we are 4 years old, but the same collage idea. The H forms the base of the House, we added a roof, windows, stairs doors and E decided to do a page with interior features as well. I let the boys pick the pictures from issues of Metropolitan Home.

Coo-coo for coconuts Part 2

So here is a follow-up to our letter "c" post -

We needed to see a coconut close up, touch it, taste it, smell it and...

prove that a real coconut does make a great letter "c" despite our attempts on paper.
