The boys loved being empowered today to make their own snack (and mess), they loved making and eating each miniture sandwich. It was pretty sticky and gooey, but nothing they couldn't clean up themselves. Sometimes I think when I do everything for them they are missing out. It was fun to watch them feel so confident making their own food. Very simple too - crackers, peanut butter (a couple of spoonfuls (in a bowl, not to contaminate the entire jar with crumbs and licked fingers), honey (we get ours at the market, fresh and local) and a bowl of sliced bananas.
I've been a "lurker" on your site for several months. I figured it was time to let you know how much I enjoy reading about your outings, projects and wonderfulness that is your family. You have given me inspiration for my 4 year old and 18 month old. I am going to do these "sandwiches" for lunch tomorrow!! I know they'll enjoy it, mess and all! Thank you for all your wisdom. :)
ReplyDeleteI lub pb and nanners!
ReplyDeletelooks like fun. I love the do it yourself idea, they have fun and you don't have to do everything! We had fruit kabobs today at breakfast, J made them herself and loved it.
ReplyDeleteI love the green view out of your window, oh and of course the cute boys inside. How can two boys not have fun with two sticky substances.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder that we shouldn't do EVERYTHING for our kids all the time! I really enjoy your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteI just remembered one of my kids' favorite things to make by themselves. I did a post about it on my blog a while back.

I totally agree it's good to let the kids do whatever they can themselves (they love it!) However, letting go of my anal-ness to allow them to do that is a lot easier said than done! :) (Cute boys BTW!)
ReplyDeleteyummy! I will have to try this treat!
